Northern Cross Cup Champions 2019

Northern Cross Cup Champions 2019

St Matthew’s Girls Football Team have won the Northern Cross Cup after a nail-biting penalty shoot-out against St Albans, Newcastle. The girls travelled to St Stephen’s Longbenton to contest the semi-finals against St Mary’s, Sunderland and St Mary’s, Whickham. In their first game, the girls edged a very tight match, 2-0, against St Mary’s, Sunderland, thanks to goals from Erin and Eva. They then needed a victory against St Mary’s, Whickham to send them through to the final. Playing with a lot more confidence, the girls won 2-0, thanks to goals from Elisha x 2.
Next up was the final, where the girls faced last years champions, St Albans. The girls took an early lead through a penalty scored by Nancy. However, St Albans were an incredibly talented side and they equalised straight away with an excellent shot. The game then went to a penalty shoot-out, with Ellen making some excellent saves. It was left to Emily B to power in the winnng shot!
St Matthew’s were victorious!

World Book Day

We had a great time celebrating World Book Day. Each class looked at a particular author and dressed up as a character from a particular book. We held a parade at the start of the day! The standard of the costumes was possibly the best standard we’ve ever had! Well done to all!
